5FW Wide Detachable Blade — 6.3mm Cutting Height for Horse Body Clipping
The 5FW is the 6.3 mm wide blade of the A5 family. It sits in the middle of the range, long enough to leave the horse with real coat and short enough to look like a finished body clip, and it is built on a wider cutting surface than the standard 5F. That combination makes it the everyday blade for blanket clips, hunter clips, trace clips and body work on horses that are in light work and still need some protection. It clicks onto the A5 clipper head the customer already owns, so it is a clippers blade replacement part rather than a new machine. Sold as a body clipper blade for equine use, the same snap-on A5 blade also works as a general grooming blade in stud yards, livery tack rooms and mobile clipping vans.

Why the 5FW is the mid-length body blade
A 6.3 mm cut leaves roughly six millimetres of hair on the horse. Professionals use that length for a specific set of jobs:
- Blanket, hunter and trace clips. The coat comes off the body while the legs, saddle patch or quarters keep their hair, and a 6.3 mm body length keeps the transition looking deliberate instead of shaved.
- Horses in light work through autumn and spring. Enough coat stays on for cool nights and turnout, but the horse still cools out quickly after exercise.
- Blending and tidying. The mid length softens lines between clipped and unclipped areas, which is why it is also used to take the top off a heavy coat before a shorter show blade goes on.
- Large areas, fewer passes. The wide cutting surface covers neck, shoulder, barrel, back and quarters in fewer overlapping strokes than a standard-width blade — less friction, less heat and less time holding a horse.
- One blade for more of the job. On a clipped-every-three-weeks yard, one body blade plus a narrow blade for the head and legs covers most of the work.
5F or 5FW? Both leave 6.3 mm. The wide 5FW covers flat body areas faster and is the better choice for full body work and high-volume yards; the standard-width 5F is easier to control on curved areas and around the shoulder and stifle. Many professional kits carry both.
Ceramic or stainless steel cutter
The blade is supplied as a complete unit, and the cutter — the upper, moving blade that does the cutting — can be ordered in ceramic or stainless steel. Both are drop-in parts for the same blade body, so a distributor can sell the same blade twice: once complete, and once as a replacement cutter when the edge goes.

Fits the A5 clipper head
The blade is built to A5 dimensions — hinge slot, mounting rail, cutter fork and tension point — so it seats on A5 clippers from the major brands. Confirmed fits include:
- Andis: AGC, AGC2, UltraEdge and Super 2-Speed
- Oster: A5, Golden A5 and Turbo A5
- Wahl: KM2, KM5, KM10 and Show Pro
- Heiniger: A5-compatible models such as Saphir
The Oster 76 series and livestock shears use a different, larger blade system and are not A5. For the face, ears, bridle path, elbows, inside of the front legs and the coronet band, step down to a narrower #10 or #15 blade; a wide 6.3 mm blade is designed for bodies, not for tight, bony geometry.
The complete A5 blade range
The 5FW sits in the middle of a full A5 programme. Retailers can stock a complete ladder of lengths without changing anything on the clipper: close blades for show preparation, mid lengths such as the 5FW and 4FW for coat, and long blades for winter clipping with coat left on.
