The 9# is the close blade one step above a #10: it leaves 2 mm of coat — 5/64 inch — where a #10 leaves 1.5 mm. On a horse that half millimetre matters. It is short enough for a bridle path, a muzzle, the inside of an ear or a clipped-out leg, but it keeps a thin film of hair over pink skin, so a slip on a fidgeting horse shows far less than it would with a shaving blade. It snaps onto the A5 detachable head and is sold as a matched pair: one stainless steel comb, plus one cutter in the buyer's choice of ceramic or stainless steel.
A 2 mm cut belongs to the detail work of an equine clip. It is the blade that goes on after the body blades have done their pass — or the only blade a yard needs when the job is tidying rather than clipping out:
9# or #10? The #10 cuts to 1.5 mm and is the show shave; the 9# cuts to 2 mm and is the same job with a margin. Groomers who find a #10 too tight on a face, an ear or a clipped-out leg finish with the 9# instead. If the coat only needs tidying rather than finishing, step up to the 7F at 3.2 mm.
Blade numbers describe how much hair is left on the horse, not the length of the blade. Every blade below uses the same A5 head, so the only decision is how much coat to leave:
| Blade | Cutting height | Typical job |
|---|---|---|
| #30 / #15 | 0.5 mm / 1.2 mm | Surgical-style prep, patterns and lines |
| #10 | 1.5 mm (1/16″) | Show shave, close prep, ears and muzzle |
| 9# (this blade) | 2 mm (5/64″) | Close finishing on head and legs, blending, sensitive skin |
| #8.5 | 2.4 mm (3/32″) | Close work with a little more cover than a 9# |
| 7F / 7FW | 3.2 mm (1/8″) | Close trimming on faces, legs and blend lines |
| 5F / 5FW | 6.3 mm (1/4″) | Blanket, hunter and trace clips |
| 4F / 4FW | 9.5 mm (3/8″) | Full body clip on autumn and winter coats |
| 3F / 3FW | 13 mm (1/2″) | Long clips and the first pass on heavy coat |
Every 9# is sold as a pair, and the two halves are not equal. The lower comb — the fixed blade the hair runs over — is stainless steel on every pair, ground and hardened, and it is not an option. The upper cutter — the moving blade that does the cutting — is the part the buyer chooses. All three cutters fit the same 9# comb, so a pair can be refreshed later with a replacement cutter instead of replacing the whole unit.
| Lower comb (fixed) | Full-tooth stainless steel, matched to the 2 mm cutting height — supplied in the pair, not sold as a choice |
|---|---|
| Upper cutter (choice) | 18-teeth ceramic, 25-teeth ceramic, or 22-teeth stainless steel |
| Ceramic cutter | Runs cooler and holds its edge longer in clean coat — useful on long clipping sessions and on sensitive or thin skin |
| Stainless steel cutter | Tougher and more resistant to chipping — better for coarse, dirty or muddy coats and the lowest replacement cost |
| Blade system | A5 detachable, full tooth |

The blade is machined to A5 dimensions — hinge slot, mounting rail, cutter fork and tension point — so it seats on the A5 clippers that the main clipper brands have supported for years. Confirmed fits include:
The Oster 76 series and livestock shears use a different, larger blade system and are not A5. A 2 mm blade is worked on thin, high-motion areas, so keep the coat clean and add a drop of clipper blade oil every ten minutes of running time; dirt and dry running are what blunt a blade and leave lines. Sample oil sachets can be packed with the blades on request.
The 9# is one blade in a range built for the three head systems distributors meet most often: the A5 platform, the A-Series for Lister-type clippers and the H-Series for Heiniger-type clippers. Stocking all three from one supplier means a dealer can serve the stud yards and the livestock tools trade in the same area without juggling brands.

The 9# is a 2 mm (5/64″) A5 style blade. It is used for close finishing on a horse: bridle path, muzzle, ears and face, leg finishing around the knee, hock and fetlock, blending, and show or sale preparation.
About 2 mm. That is half a millimetre more than a #10 at 1.5 mm, and 1.2 mm less than a 7F at 3.2 mm.
It is sold as a pair: one upper cutter plus one lower comb, packed together as a single piece. The lower comb is always stainless steel; the upper cutter is chosen in ceramic or stainless steel.
Ceramic for long sessions where heat matters and for sensitive or thin skin; stainless steel for coarse or dirty coats and the lowest replacement cost. All three cutters fit the same 9# stainless steel comb.
If the clipper uses the A5 detachable system, yes. Andis AGC series, Oster A5 series, Wahl KM series and A5-compatible Heiniger models are supported. The Oster 76 series and livestock shears are not A5.
Yes. Logo on the blade, custom blister card and bulk carton are available. Minimum order is 100 pairs, with artwork approval before production.
