The 3F is the 13 mm blade of the A5 family: the longest cut in the standard A5 range, and the one professional grooms use when the horse has to keep its coat, stay warm and still look tidy. This 3F is built with a stainless steel comb and a cutter you can order in stainless steel or ceramic. It clicks onto the A5 clipper head the customer already owns, so it works as a straightforward clippers blade replacement part rather than a new machine purchase.

Why the 3F is the coat-length blade
A 13 mm cut leaves roughly one and a quarter centimetres of hair on the horse. That single fact decides where the blade belongs in a kit:
- Cold-weather clipping with coat left on. Horses that live out or work in low temperatures keep insulation and stay comfortable, while the clip still looks deliberate rather than woolly.
- Sensitive and pink skin. A 13 mm length leaves more margin than a short show blade, so there is less exposure to daylight and less risk of taking the coat too close.
- Blending and natural finishes. The longer cut softens the transition between clipped body areas and hair left on the legs, which is exactly what a trace or blanket clip needs.
- First clip on a heavy coat. On cobs, draft crosses and native ponies, the 3F takes the bulk of a dense winter coat down to a workable length in one pass, without scalping the horse.
- Standard width for control. The 3F covers the neck, chest, shoulder, barrel and quarters efficiently, yet stays narrow enough for edges and smaller areas where a wide FW blade is harder to control.
3F or 3FW? Both cut at 13 mm. The standard-width 3F gives more control on curved and smaller areas; the wide 3FW covers large flat body areas in fewer passes. Many professional kits carry both and use the wide blade for the field and the standard blade for the boundaries.
Comb and cutter: two parts, two materials
An A5 blade is a pair of parts, and buyers often mix them up. The comb is the lower, fixed blade that guides the hair; the cutter is the upper moving blade that does the cutting. On this 3F the comb is stainless steel, while the cutter can be ordered in stainless steel or ceramic.

Fits the A5 clipper head
The blade is built to A5 dimensions — hinge slot, mounting rail, cutter fork and tension point — so it seats on A5 clippers from the major brands. Confirmed fits include:
- Andis: AGC, AGC2, UltraEdge and Super 2-Speed
- Oster: A5, Golden A5 and Turbo A5
- Wahl: KM2, KM5, KM10 and Show Pro
- Heiniger: A5-compatible models such as Saphir
The Oster 76 series and livestock shears use a different, larger blade system and are not A5. For the face, ears, bridle path, elbows, inside of the front legs and the coronet band, step down to a narrower #10 or #15 blade; a 13 mm blade is designed to leave coat, not to finish tight, bony geometry.

The 3F sits at the long end of a full A5 programme. Retailers can stock a complete ladder of lengths without changing anything on the clipper: close blades for show preparation, mid lengths for coat, and the wide FW blades for efficient body clipping.
